"There's shame in the secret!" Sonja declared.
Afraid her sin would be exposed, she made a choice.
Part two of Speaking Her Secrets: A Single Woman's Journey to Discover Her Faith picks up right where we left off in Part One, where Sonja declares, "It's hard to be a single mom."
When someone suggests to Sonja, a 40-year-old, tired, single mother of three active girls, that she do something for herself and encourages her with the words, “You deserve it.” Sonja agrees, but what she does for herself takes her back to the lifestyle she used to live.
Hiding Her Secrets
Women who sit in the pew on Sundays and feel the battle of living a “double life" will find a connection with Sonja's story as she confesses, “I was really good at hiding it.” Then she explains how she “put my focus on me, and my needs and thinking I needed physical… I needed a man in my life.”
Speaking Her Secrets
The listener will hear emotions building as we witness Sonja’s last secret being exposed. It is here where women who battle the after-effects of the emotional and spiritual pain of abortion will hear Sonja’s words of encouragement.
No More Living in Secret
In Part One, Sonja’s story begins in secret when she is 6 years old and reaches out to God out of fear. Today, her story encourages women to speak their secrets because, as she declares, “Satan is in your secrets.” She does not suggest telling our secrets to just anyone, but she encourages the listener to confess their sins to someone as James 5:16 instructs. Then she concludes that finding peace “wasn’t until I started speaking my secrets.”
Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
(Psalm 32:2-5 NIV)
